Dr. Mayer studied computer science and mathematics as an undergraduate, and obtained his Masters and PhD from the University of Utah in mathematics, where he studied as a Fulbright scholar. After holding several post-doctoral and university professorship positions in applied mathematics (Brown University, Vanderbilt University, Universität Kassel in Germany), he switched his career to data science and statistical learning more than two decades ago, more than half of which he spent at eBay in various data science roles. Dr. Mayer is extensively published in both mathematics and computer science, is an IEEE senior member and holds several patents related to computing.
